Welcome Week Lunch-Time Activities End with a Splash
It’s a Score! A contestant standing on the third floor balcony overlooking Traditions Courtyard and tossing a melon over the edge finds paydirt below during Welcome Week’s final lunch-time activity on Thursday. Senior Peter Casey and the Blue Jays in attendance display their appreciation for a great shot.

Welcome Week (Thursday): Chemical Cleansing Clean Up (Top Kill) Photo Gallery Senior Chip Arnold ignores the gushing oil well on the second floor balcony and reviews the 2010 Welcome Week activities with the school community.
|
Welcome Week activities started Monday morning as Blue Jays gathered for assembly in Traditions Courtyard.
During Jesuit student council president Chip Arnold's interview of senior Brian Barbara about the future Big "J" Read and other activities, a recently drilled oil platform on the second floor balcony began to leak and seemed to threaten upcoming Welcome Week activities. Although Jesuit Petroleum officials had little to say about the malfunction of its platform, they did pledge that Welcome Week would not be affected. Chip then announced the myriad of oil spill-related activities planned during the lunch hour this week, including Tar Ball Tuesday, Pelican Pandemonium, Feed the Relief Workers, and Chemical Cleansing Clean-up. Check back to the Jesuit web site for photos from the 2010 Welcome Week activities.

PAG Captains’ Meeting Helps Keep the Ship Righted and Full Steam Ahead to September 19 At the PAG Captains’ Meeting Tuesday evening (August 31) in the Student Commons, pre-freshmen tri-chair Eric Simonson ’82 (at left) sorts through contact cards to give to his captains. Each captain is responsible for getting in touch with two or three other Jesuit parents and, hopefully, forge a meaningful relationship with them over the course of the next five years while their sons are attending Jesuit.

A New Outdoor Athletic Complex and Field Will Finally Give Blue Jays the “Home Field Advantage”

An architect rendering shows what will be the main entrance into Jesuit’s new athletic complex and practice field. The facility will be located on approximately seven acres near Airline Drive, just over the Orleans-Jefferson Parishes boundary, and a mere five-minute ride from Carrollton and Banks. The project, which goes by the name of Home Field Advantage, has a target completion date in late spring 2011. |
Five Years Later, Jesuit Remembers KatrinaIt’s been five years since Hurricane Katrina left her mark on our city and on our lives. Some may argue that it’s time to move on from this seminal event. And perhaps they are right. But Jesuit’s reflection on this fifth anniversary probes deeper into the experience. Below, visitors will find the facts, the figures, and the photos about Katrina the storm and the flood which changed our lives. Remembering these details is essential to avoid repeating them.
But there lies a more profound meaning that individuals gain when they stop and reflect upon what has come and what is yet to be. These reflections are the touchstones by which we may measure our successes and shortcomings.
To this end, this remembrance also includes a web page which incorporates Jesuit alumni and educators’ commentary and actions faced in Katrina’s wake. These stories challenge and inspire visitors to dedicate or rededicate themselves to turning the tragedy of August 29th, 2005, into personal and community success stories. It has been five years since Hurricane Katrina. Let’s take this opportunity not to wallow in memories grounded in sorrow or fear but to reflect upon our efforts and to renew our commitment to ourselves, our community, and—most importantly—our faith to finish the job we started only five years ago. The Numbers Do the Talking: Blue Jays Make the Grade to Excel in College and Beyond Last year, pre-freshmen Mark Alvarez (front), Pablo Amador, Alex Anderson, and Austin Aucoin display the focus and confidence to meet Jesuit’s academic challenge that will lead to success in college and beyond.

A Jesuit education is worth every penny, according to statistics recently released by the American College Testing (ACT) program.
ACT’s statistics confirm the preparation that Blue Jays received as they began their collegiate careers. The chart below shows that Jesuit’s academic challenge, coupled with the commitment to support and encourage excellence, creates young men more than ready to meet the test of college and beyond. With a dedicated faculty that promotes reflection and curiosity, Blue Jays involved in all four instructional programs have earned a school-wide composite of 27.0, which far exceeds the state average of 20.1. Congratulations to all Blue Jays who have graduated from Carrollton and Banks, and good luck to the Jays who continue their high school studies in Jesuit’s rich academic tradition.
