Rules for Jesuit High School's 2010 Online Auction

1.  To bid on an item, you must first Register. This is a simple process that will take only a couple of minutes. Choose a user name that you will use each time you return to the site. When you submit your registration, a computer-generated password will be emailed to you at the email address you provided. You may Change Your Password anytime afterwards. Participants in Jesuit’s previous auctions may use the same login-password.

2.  You will need your user name and password to bid on an item and to pay for an item that is won. For security reasons, Jesuit cannot retrieve user names and passwords, so make sure you store them properly. If you forget your password, look for the link at the bottom of the page: Change/ Forgot Password?

3.  The online auction begins on Wednesday, March 3 and will end on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 11:01 p.m. (CST).

4.  Payment for items won must be made online no later than Noon (CST) on Friday, March 12. Payment must be made online through Jesuit’s secure system. You may access the Pay for Item link at the bottom of any auction page. If the winner of the item fails to pay for the item by the above deadline, the item will be offered to the second highest bidder. If the second highest bidder declines to buy it, the item will roll over to be auctioned on the night of Celebration.

5.  For the first time, none of the items up for bid have an undisclosed "Reserve Price" established. Additionally, none of the items will have a "Buy It Now" price as in previous years. These new features, implemented by the online auction leadership team, are designed to encourage participation and means that ALL items offered online will be sold online, provided the minimum bid is met. None of the items will roll over to be auctioned the night of Celebration, except those items in which the minimum bids were not met.

6.  The online auction will be conducted fairly. The leadership team encourages participation by alumni, parents of current Blue Jays, and parents of alumni as all proceeds benefit Jesuit. The leadership team discourages Sniping as the minutes count down to the auction close at 11:01 p.m. (CST) on Thursday, March 11. To discourage sniping, bidding shall remain open for 5 minutes after the final bid is submitted. For example, if Bidder A submits a new bid for an item one minute before the auction ends, at 11:00 p.m. (CST) on Thursday, March 11, bidding shall remain open an additional 5 minutes, until 11:05 p.m. This allows Bidder B, and possibly other bidders, additional time to submit a higher bid than Bidder A’s bid. If Bidder B submits a bid at 11:04 p.m., the auction will be extended another 5 minutes until 11:09 p.m. If two bidders are determined to win the coveted item, they possibly, might engage in an endless bidding war in which the winner would most likely be... Jesuit. In the three online auctions Jesuit has held, there have been only two instances of sniping. The first year there was no rule in place to address the problem and Bidder A, who submitted a last minute bid, won the item when the auction ended 60 seconds later. This upset Bidder B who had submitted a bid approximately four or five minutes prior to the end of the auction, only to be sniped by Bidder A. This lone sniping experience in the first auction resulted in the 5-minute rule being implemented for the next two auctions. In year two, Bidders A and B briefly arm-wrestled as the end approached. Their short-lived struggle extended the auction for that item by some 6 minutes. The online auction leadership team does not expect any problems, but in the event there are any disputes, the leadership team will be the final arbiters.

7.  The minimum bid on each item is considered to be fair and reasonable and reflects a consensus of the online auction leadership team. The minimum bid increments for all items will be $25.

8.  Jesuit may verify a bid by contacting the bidder.

9.  New items may be added to the online auction after it begins on Wednesday, March 3, so check back after the initial items are posted.

10.  If you have a suggestion or a question, email: questions@jesuitnola.orgHave fun bidding, bid high, bid often, and best of luck to all bidders!
