Biology
Honors, Biology II (Anatomy & Physiology), Biology II AP
2010-2011
Students are required to bring the
following materials to class on a daily basis:
- Textbook
- Notebook (binder type with
pockets is recommended)
- Loose leaf paper
- # 2 Pencils with Erasers
- Ruler
- Blue or Black Ink Pen
- Colored Pencils
- Calculator (for lab exercises)
Class Policies
- Students must be seated in their
desk at the second bell to be considered on time for class.
- All students are required to
take notes in class.
- Only materials for biology are
to be out during class.
- Book bags belong on the floor
UNDER the desk and out of any walking area.
- Text books for Biology Honors
and Biology II are state text books. These must be covered and cannot be
written in. Students are responsible for the condition of the text books.
- Students are expected to keep up
with reading assignments (refer to 9 weeks syllabus).
- Students are never permitted to
put heads down.
- Vandalism to the classroom
equipment or furnishings will not be tolerated.
- Students are expected to treat
each other in a respectful manner.
Computers
- The computers in the classroom
are for Biology work only and may not be used without permission..
- All students are required to
obtain a password from the computer lab by the specified deadline.
- Unauthorized use of the school’s
equipment (ie, non-biology work, vandalism,
graffiti, etc.) will be handled with the cooperation of the discipline
office.
- All rules and regulations of the
computer usage agreement are to be followed.
Grading
- The report card grade will be
calculated as follows:
- 30% Homework, Quizzes, Lab work
- 40% Tests
- 30% Exam
- Jesuit’s grade scale:
o A 90
– 100
o B 82
– 89
o C 75
– 81
o D 70
– 74
o F 69
and under
- No grades will be dropped in
calculating a student’s average.
- Each student is expected to keep
a record of his own grades.
- Tests and exams will be kept on
file by the teacher but all other assignments will be returned to the
student to take home.
- Students will be given time
during class to review a test or exam.
Homework, Quizzes, and Laboratory
- Students will take quizzes
DAILY.
- All written assignments are to
be done neatly.
- All assignments are to be turned
in on time. Failure to turn in
assignments on time will result in zero credit earned on that assignment.
- Grading on assignments will
reflect understanding of concepts, following directions, and use of
correct grammar and spelling.
- A ruler must be used for any
graph or chart constructed without a computer.
- Dissection participation is
required. Students may be permitted to choose their own lab partner. At least one member of the lab group is
required to handle the specimen.
- Dissection grades are based on a
student's knowledge of the material.
- Laboratory work will be assessed
with quizzes, tests, and exams.
- Any vandalism, misuse of lab
equipment, etc. will be handled with the assistance of the discipline
office.
- Students may be required to
supply items such as scissors, glue or tape for lab exercises.
Tests
- Tests generally cover lecture
material, information from labs, etc.
- Timed laboratory tests will be
scheduled as separate tests or as part of a unit test.
- Tests are composed of both
objective and subjective questions.
Make-up Work
- Refer to the syllabus for
reading assignments and dates for all labs and tests.
- Assignments must be obtained
from the instructor, as they may not necessarily be the one given in
class.
- Ordinarily, make-up labs will be
scheduled by the instructor after school only. Students involved in extra-curricular
activities will need to make arrangements if necessary.
- Make up tests will be scheduled
only after school or during lunch on Monday or Friday (depending on
instructor's schedule).
- All tests must be made up prior
to the quarter exam.
- Make-up tests may be essay in
format.
- Make-up quiz grades will be
assigned the same score on the scheduled test which covers the quiz
material. No separate make-up quizzes will be scheduled.
Exams
- Exams are comprehensive for the
quarter.
- Biology I Honors exemptions may
be earned for the final exam only.
In order to earn an exemption, a student MUST have a 90 average or
higher EACH quarter.
- Senior exemptions may be
given during the midterm exam and the final exam. In order to qualify for the midterm
exam, a student must have a 90 average or higher for 1st and 2nd
quarter. To be exempt for the final
exam, a student must have a 90 average or higher for the 3rd
and 4th quarter.
Office Hours
- Students requesting help outside
of class should make an appointment. However, for short questions, I am
available most days from 7:15 -
7:40 am and 3:00 – 3:15 pm in the 3rd floor science
office or in room 315.
- Students needing help during the
lunch hour should make an appointment in advance.

- Parents requesting grade
information may email the instructor, leave a voice mail, or make the
request through the counselor’s office.
